The (Cyber) Hunt is On

Monday, December 1st, 2008

There’s no shortage of prognosticators preaching about the impact of economic turmoil on this year’s holiday season for both online and offline retailers.  Stories of parents explaining a downsized holiday to their children and the tragedy of a worker being killed by a stampede of bargain hunting shoppers have found their way to the front page of newspapers.

Black Friday may be taking on new meaning in the present economy from the traditional day of profitability to a day of mourning for some retailers. Thus far the selling season has seen a 4% decrease compared to the same period (Nov 1–28) last year. According to comScore Black Friday sales were up 1% but overall web sales are expected to be flat from last year.

Now more than ever, consumers and retailers alike are focused on one thing and one thing alone…the almighty bargain – finding them and promoting them.

In the spirit of capitalism and an effort to stimulate such buying and selling particularly on this Cyber Monday, the following provides a short list of bargain hunting shopping portals. Shoppers will find a plethora of deals across several discount and bargain sites. For merchants, these sites provide incremental opportunities to promote your products outside of the traditional shopping sites.

It’s not too late to get your products listed on these sites (many are free or offer cost per click models) and to make the most of this year’s selling season through a variety of cost-effective online marketing strategies.
